New Scholarship Programme Launched with Funding from The Portal Trust
Greenwich Music School is thrilled to announce the launch of our new scholarship scheme, generously funded by The Portal Trust. This exciting expansion of our bursary and support programme aims to empower talented young musicians by ensuring that financial barriers don’t stand in the way of their potential.
Introducing Our New Scholarship Programme
Thanks to the support of The Portal Trust, we’re able to introduce an enhanced scholarship programme that offers substantial aid to young musicians who show strong potential. This programme will go beyond typical support, covering essential costs such as exam fees, instrument expenses, holiday courses, and offering increased subsidies for lesson fees. By addressing these costs, we aim to create more equitable access to high-quality music education.
“We know that to have a positive impact on young lives we need to go beyond traditional education, and we aren’t afraid to take chances. We champion new and innovative approaches to addressing needs and providing support.”
— The Portal Trust
Expectations of Scholarship Recipients
To make the most of these scholarships, recipients are expected to demonstrate commitment and progress. This includes maintaining high attendance, practising regularly, actively participating in concerts and events, and showing musical growth through exams or performances. This commitment ensures that each scholarship is a stepping stone to achieving excellence.
An Inclusive Opportunity for All Young Musicians
Greenwich Music School is dedicated to inclusivity, and this scholarship programme reflects that commitment. It’s open to children and young people aged 5 to 18, whether they are interested in one-to-one lessons, joining a band, or singing in a choir. We welcome applications from those without formal music training, and from children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Our commitment to accessibility extends to all our students, and our longstanding bursary scheme continues to offer support based on financial need and engagement, ensuring that quality tuition remains within reach for many families.

We invite you to spread the word about this fantastic opportunity. If you know a young musician who could benefit from our scholarship programme, please encourage them to apply. Applications can be made directly or through a referral from a music teacher, school teacher, or headteacher.
Our heartfelt thanks go to The Portal Trust for their generous support, which has made this programme possible. Together, we’re building a more vibrant, inclusive musical community in South East London, helping the next generation of musicians realise their full potential.
